July 18 - 21 UPSTATE ART WEEKEND
NEXT WEEKEND: Visit Peekskill Flatiron Artist Studios and Book Shop / Book Shop!
JULY 2024
What a year, its already halfway through and flying! Just sending a quick update to announce that I will be participating in Upstate Art Weekend with Peekskill Flatiron Artist Studios, coming up NEXT WEEK July 18 - 21st. Over 140 cultural organizations will participate in this year’s edition, celebrating art and culture in ten counties in the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley. This is going to be an amazing long weekend to see art in the entire Hudson Valley from White Plains all the way up to Kinderhook, on both sides of the Hudson. This will be my first year participating and I’m super excited.
Flatiron Artist Studios is number 88 on the UPAW map, which is an interactive google map you can save to your phone! Peekskill may have been left off of the beautifully illustrated Chronogram map, below (if you’re in the HV pick up the July edition for this physical UPAW guide), but we are very much participating and Peekskill is a really cool place to visit for good art and good food! Flatiron Artist Studios will feature the work of Elizabeth Castaldo, Alison Pascoe, Melissa Pracht, Bérit Schumann, Lavinia Wiggins, Maureen Winzig, the silver anniversary exhibition at Flatiron Gallery, and an exhibition of work by Stefano Luigi Guida in the Peekskill Coffee House, plus the best coffee around, great food and cool shops.
Peekskill Artist Alliance also just unveiled a huge public art project in Peekskill’s Pugsley Park on Main Street, featuring several 8 foot artwork panels, including one by your truly! If you visit Peekskill, stop by the park to check out the installation.
Check us out in this post on @upstateartweekend and follow them for more updates!
Hope to see you next weekend for UPAW!

Vandercooking: Image Making for Letterpress
Center for Book Arts
THIS WEEKEND 10-4 | July 13-14
The Vandercook presses are useful tools for a variety of projects and can be fun to use for many image based processes that can stand alone or be used in combination with hand set type. This workshop will cover a variety of hand made image making techniques such as pressure printing, collagraphs, and linocut.
Through these techniques, you will explore color, transparency, shape, and layering of imagery to create a series of prints. This class will focus on a playful and spontaneous approach to letterpress, but the resulting prints can be used as the beginnings of an artist’s book, a printed edition, or a series of unique prints, and next steps for these types of projects will be touched on as well. Anyone with an experimental spirit will love this class. Letterpress experience will be helpful but is not required.
