Long Overdue Story about my residency at WSW PLUS upcoming Art Book Fairs!
THIS WEEKEND: I will have work on display at Booksmart, part of the Art on Paper fair.
SEPTEMBER 2024
Is it September already? I’m finding myself stuck in a little late August funk, make that an Oh, its September already! funk, overwhelmed by what I have to do and things I still haven’t done, mystified by how quickly the year has evaporated, trying to remind myself its still not over and that these time markers are a construct anyway. Summer seems to be decisively over. Another semester has begun, my kid started middle school!
I have been meaning to write about my artist residency at Women’s Studio Workshop that I did earlier this year (that was January and February!). The past few months went by fast, yet so much has happened it seems like years ago now. I looked back through my photos which actually made me feel happy and accomplished. I realized how much I did during those two months and what a milestone making that work was for me and how impactful the entire experience really was. Linked below is the first of a couple of installments - full disclosure, my website is a hot mess, still working on getting it back into shape after it crashed during a transfer.
I am also excited to be participating in two art book fairs this month. The first is happening now: Booksmart! the art book fair held within the Art on Paper fair. I’ll have work at the Center for Book Arts table. I also have access to complimentary tickets, so if you’d like to attend please shoot me an email (sorry this is going out a bit later than I had planned).
Later this month I’ll be tabling myself as Forest Magic Press at the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, Sept 28-29 at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
More info about both fairs, upcoming workshops, my ongoing fundraiser for Palestine, and Bookshop / Bookshop below.
I would also love to hear how you’re feeling during this summer to fall transition. If you’re getting this in your inbox, simply hit reply to say hi!

Artist Residency at Women’s Studio Workshop
I was invited to be an Art-in Ed Artist in Residence at Women’s Studio Workshop. I was elated. I had been to WSW a few times for their summer intensive workshops and to use the studio as a renter a handful of times in the past. I loved being there, the studios, community and history of the organization were all so incredible and after years of applying to various opportunities, I was finally selected for a residency program.
I got the notification in 2023 that I was invited to participate in the Art-in Ed residency program, meaning that I would be working with local students as well as making my own work in the studios. The length of the residency was 8 weeks and I could live on site. This meant living apart from my family for longer than I had ever been away for an art residency, but it was only an hour away from home so that took some of that pressure off.
Women’s Studio Workshop is located in Rosendale NY, which is just outside of Kingston and about 20 minutes north of New Paltz. Its a cute little town nestled into the Hudson Valley near the Shawangunk mountains. Very much in the woods. There was no cell service.
I arrived on January 8th, one of the coldest days. The quiet studios buzzed with potential as staff and interns showed me and Quinn Keck, the intaglio studio AIR around. I was focusing on silkscreen so the upstairs studio would be my home base. My living space was two houses down, where I would share a house with the four interns. My husband helped me move all my stuff in and then headed home to pick up our daughter from school. Without my own car, I was pretty much studio bound. This was going to be great.

Photopolymer Crash Course
Center for Book Arts
October 19-20 | Weekend 11-5
The letterpress has so many more capabilities than its classic wood and metal type uses. Photopolymer plates are a new school material that brings versatility, convenience, and a wealth of design options to the old school world of letterpress. In this workshop, students will learn how to prepare plates from hand-drawn illustrations and/or digital images. Then students will learn how to make plates using CBA’s exposure unit. Finally, the class will set up the press and print!
This workshop is designed for individuals with some letterpress experience.
Full Coverage: Repeat Printing for Wall Installations
Center for Book Arts
Nov 5 - Dec 3 | Tuesdays 6-9
In this five-session in-person class, participants will learn to create large wall installations out of small modular prints.
Students will learn how to turn their drawings and other artwork into a repeatable module that can be transferred to a linoleum block for carving or turned into a polymer plate. Students will then learn how to print these patterns on the Vandercook presses, allowing you to make many multiples of the prints, which can then be trimmed and tiled to create large repeat patterns. The multiples are suitable to use for creating large scale wall installations, wallpaper, or even for covering three dimensional objects.
Students will have several options of substrate, such as linoleum, photopolymer and fun foam to work with and the imagery can be combined with wood type from CBA’s type collection as well. The class will contextualize this concept by looking at examples by artists working with repeat pattern and tessellation such as Lanette Scheeline, MC Escher and Julia Rothman.
